FAQ
When do you have the right to a replacement car if your car has been involved in an accident due to another driver?
+
-
If your car has been involved in an accident caused by another driver, you have the right to request a replacement car while your car is being repaired.
Where do you go for a replacement car?
+
-
When contacting the accident insurance company for compensation, ask the insurer about the procedure for reimbursing the costs of a replacement car.
What are the conditions of a traffic accident for which you can apply for a replacement car?
+
-
In all cases, the at-fault driver must be determined. If the accident is being investigated by the police, the insurance company may wait for a certificate from the police before deciding to provide a replacement car or reimburse the costs involved.
What documents are required?
+
-
Both when providing replacement cars and when reimbursing the costs involved, some insurance companies may ask for documents or explanations justifying the need for a replacement car (eg loan agreement with the workplace, explanations for family needs, etc.). The list of documents required by insurance companies may vary depending on the specific situation. The insurance company will also ask you to complete a request for a replacement car during the repair period of your own car.
For how long is a replacement car available?
+
-
The period for providing or renting a replacement car is a reasonable, objective period for repairing the car damaged in the accident. When it is not expedient to repair the car (for example, it is irreparably damaged), the period of renting / granting a replacement car is usually determined until the date of payment of the insurance benefit.
What car can be provided and at what price reimbursed?
+
-
You may be given a replacement car of a similar class to your own car. The daily rental price of a replacement car, which is usually agreed to be paid by the insurance companies, must be up to 25/30 Euro.
Where do you need to repair your damaged car?
+
-
Repairs must be performed at a service centre recommended by the insurance company.
What do you need to know about the duration of the repair?
+
-
Ask the service that performed the repair work in writing to indicate the duration of the repair work, as this may be requested by the insurance company when deciding on reimbursing the replacement car.
What documents do you need to submit to the insurance company when you use a replacement car?
+
-
The insurance company will need to see the car rental contract, the invoice and proof of payment.
What if the insurance company refuses to provide a replacement car?
+
-
If you are a natural person and the car damaged in the accident was used to meet your personal, family or household needs, and you believe that the insurance company has unreasonably refused to provide you with a replacement car or to reimburse you for the costs (or has not reimbursed you for all the costs), you have the right to apply to the Bank of Lithuania for a dispute resolution. More information on dispute resolution is available on the Bank of Lithuania's website.
